Mid-semester feedback:

  • Coding practice in class is appreciated
  • More “live-coding” from professor would be useful
  • More real-world data/case studies, please!
  • Pace & difficulty are about right (2 people said a little too fast/difficult)
  • Most people wanted pre-assigned dataset for the “mini-projects”. If you’re someone who really wants to use your own data, I’ll give option to do that for last mini project

    • Yes, but should get full credit so long as you provide 2 thoughtful comments/questions
    • “I feel a bit overwhelmed, as a considerable amount of time is being devoted to annotation reading” - Don’t spend more than 1 hour on this!

  • A note about submission formats - I’m flexible as long as it’s organized / clearly labeled!
  • Reminder about AI policy - you must cite it if you use it! Include the following (see syllabus):
    • Which tool(s) you used
    • What prompt(s) you gave it on which problem(s)
    • A brief reflection of your takeaway / analysis of the output provided by the tool, including your level of confidence in it. A couple of sentences will suffice.

  • If you find yourself spending more than an hour or two on these homework assignments, reach out for help! Piazza or office hours.
  • Lectures are automatically recorded in this classroom, but I don’t post them. If you could benefit from re-watching a particular lecture, email me and I can send you the link.
  • “I fall behind when trying to take notes on the powerpoint” - I’d suggest downloading the powerpoint and/or the SAS file and taking notes directly in those documents - don’t need to write down what’s on the slides.
  • Request to post answers to the Quiz slides - I will start doing this the day after class.
  • Will post solutions to practice problems the day after class also
