Tuesday announcements

  • Keep the feedback coming!
  • Quizzes
    • Split about 60/40 with slightly more folks preferring beginning of class.
    • Will plan for 10 minute beginning-of-class quiz on Thursday. Can revisit in future if not working well!
    • How to prepare?

    • Adjusting to have fewer homework problems
    • Why are we doing these readings?
    • Indicate on notecard / weekly check-in if you’d prefer to have reading annotations and/or HW due date switched to Tuesdays
  • Will start posting homework solutions after the due date (may be delayed for pending late submissions)

Thursday announcements

Tuesday announcements

  • ASA StatFest 2025 - free virtual event designed to connect undergraduate students from historically underrepresented groups with industry experts, academic leaders, and peers. Three Thursday evenings 7 - 9pm starting this week.

  • Make sure you are using the 7th edition of the textbook to complete the homework - there are discrepancies in the exercise numbers. Graded what you submitted this time, moving forward will only get credit if 7th edition problems are submitted.

  • A note / quick demo on Lab 02

    • Can download the .qmd by right-clicking and selecting “Download linked file”
    • Make sure to install gtools package and running library(gtools) code chunk before proceeding with rest of the lab

  • First quiz to start class today (~5mins). Closed book, closed notes.

  • HW 01, Lab 01, Annotations 02 due tonight

    • html -> zip still fine for Lab 01 submission

    • make sure you can render to pdf before Lab 02 due date

    • see Piazza announcement for more details/help and/or come to student hours!

  • RE: Exam 1 takehome/Parents’ weekend conflict. Will keep the same date, but will keep the take-home length reasonable (no more time than regular homework assignment), and will allow 2-day extension if needed.

Tuesday announcements

    • Blackboard doesn’t like html submissions. Zip files are fine for Lab 01, pdf will be best moving forward
    • To render to a pdf, add format: pdf to your YAML (top section between the three dashes in the .qmd)
